Alice Springs Airport

HFC + Arconas recently installed Bernù Aero tandem seating in black upholstery at Alice Springs Airport in Northern Territory, Australia. Alice Springs is a domestic airport that sits as a gateway for exploring central and northern Australia.

The airport set out to refresh their hold room and replace the old, outdated furniture. They chose Arconas’ Bernù Aero seating for its many positive design features. This includes its open seat-backs that allow debris to fall through to the floor for easy cleaning. Bernù Aero’s modular design allows any damaged parts, including seats and backs, to be replaced one for one on site without disrupting an entire row. Its plush but firm cushions also provide superior comfort and long-term support for airport waiting areas. All rows have sleek aluminum cantilever arms.

5% of seats in the hold room are dedicated for passengers with disabilities. These seats feature an arm removed on the end for wheelchair transfers. Accessibility symbol embroidery is clearly visible on the seat back.

The Alice Springs Airport has done a tremendous job at creating a sense of ‘place’ with their experiential interior design choices. Wildlife photography hangs from the walls and ceilings. As well, there is a small art gallery that features Australian aboriginal art from the nearby Yubu Napa Art Gallery in Alice Springs. The bright and colorful carpet also features designs which are reminiscent of aboriginal style artwork. Additionally, there are statues in the middle of the baggage claim carousal featuring iconic Australian wildlife including, of course, a kangaroo.
