Bundoora Campus
About the location
Located in Melbourne’s north, the La Trobe University Bundoora campus spans over 200 hectares of parkland, making it one of the largest metropolitan university campuses in Australia. Home to the vibrant Agora precinct, a central hub of cafés, retail and study spaces. The campus blends academic life with a strong sense of community.
Opened in 1967, the original buildings were designed as a self-contained “university village,” complete with a surrounding moat that symbolises a place of ideas set apart from the outside world. Today, the campus is equally recognised for its distinctive brutalist architecture, expansive green spaces, and native wildlife that continue to shape its unique character. Zaneti’s latest education project compliments the surroundings and character.

About the project
This project centred on creating structured breakout zones within the campus Agora. The aim was to support different modes of use — individual study, small group discussion, and casual dining — without overcomplicating the layout.
By combining bar-height seating, lounge-style formats and standard dining arrangements, the space allows natural movement and varied use throughout the day.
The outcome is a contemporary campus gathering space that reflects the historical meaning of its name. A modern-day agora — designed for conversation, learning and connection.
